Charity Upon Every Joint

Translation

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Every joint of a person must perform a charity each day that the sun rises: to judge justly between two people is a charity. To help a man with his mount, lifting him onto it or hoisting up his belongings onto it, is a charity. And the good word is a charity. And every step that you take towards the prayer is a charity, and removing a harmful object from the road is a charity.”

Explanation

Every joint in the human body owes a daily charity as gratitude for the blessing of a sound body. The Prophet ﷺ then listed acts that fulfil this: judging justly between two people, helping a man with his mount, a good word, every step walked to prayer, and removing something harmful from the road.

Key Lessons

  • 1The body's blessings are thanked through good deeds
  • 2Charity includes countless small acts of kindness
  • 3Helping others and reconciling people is charity
  • 4Removing harm from the road is charity
