Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Deen collects, why it is used, and the choices available to people using the platform.
Private by Default
Personal learning data is used to operate the app, not sold to advertisers.
Study Data
Saved progress, bookmarks, and preferences help keep your learning experience consistent.
Account Email
Email is used for account verification and important account messages.
Information We Collect
- Account information if you create an account: email address, username, optional display name, a password credential (stored as a hash, never in plain text), and email verification status. You can also use most of the app without an account.
- Learning activity you choose to save to your account: Quran reading progress, bookmarks, memorization (Hifz) plans and reviews, tasbeeh and adhkar counts, daily habits, prayer reminder preferences, notes and dashboard layout. Without an account this stays on your device.
- Location, only if you allow it: your device location is used on your device to work out prayer times and the qibla direction. It is saved on your device and is not stored on our servers.
- Microphone, only if you tap record: recitation self-check recordings are made and kept on your device. They are never uploaded to us.
- Technical information such as IP address, request metadata and service logs that our servers keep to run and secure the service.
How We Use Information
- To provide account access, verify email addresses, sync your progress between devices, remember preferences, schedule prayer reminders on your device, and make the features work.
- To protect the platform from abuse and to troubleshoot errors.
- To send account-related messages, such as verification emails and security notices. We do not sell personal information, and the Deen Track app contains no advertising.
Service Providers and Third Parties
- Prayer times: your coordinates are sent to Aladhan (api.aladhan.com) to calculate prayer times, and to OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) to show a city name. If you do not allow location access, the app may ask ipapi.co for an approximate location from your IP address. These services receive your coordinates or IP address, not your account details.
- Quran text, translations and audio are loaded from Quran.Foundation, quran.com and public audio hosts such as cdn.islamic.network and everyayah.com. Like any web request, these hosts can see your IP address.
- Our website (deen.so) uses Umami for privacy-focused usage statistics. The Deen Track app does not include analytics or advertising SDKs.
- Our servers and email delivery are run by providers that process data only as needed to operate Deen. Data is sent over HTTPS.
Your Choices and Deleting Your Data
- You can delete your account and the data saved to it at any time from Settings in the app or on the website, or by following the steps at https://deen.so/delete-account. Deletion removes your account and synced data from our live database. Logs and backups may keep technical records for a limited time until they are rotated out.
- You can deny or revoke location, microphone and notification permissions in your device settings. Prayer times can then be set by choosing a city manually.
- You can ask us for help with account data or corrections by contacting us.
- Local data can be cleared from your device or browser settings, or by uninstalling the app.
Children
- The Deen Track app is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
- If you believe a child provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review and remove it where required.
