The Story

Lut (peace be upon him) was the nephew of Ibrahim who believed in him and migrated with him. He was later sent as a prophet to the people of Sodom near the Dead Sea.

The people of Sodom were engaged in unprecedented immorality, including homosexual practices that had never been done by any nation before. Lut called them to righteousness and warned them repeatedly.

They rejected his message and threatened to expel him. When angels came to Lut in the form of handsome men, the people of Sodom tried to harm them. Lut was distressed and offered to protect his guests.

Allah commanded Lut to leave with his family at night, except his wife who was among the disbelievers. At dawn, Allah sent a devastating punishment - the cities were turned upside down and rained upon with stones of baked clay.

Lut and his believing family were saved. The ruins are believed to be at the southern end of the Dead Sea.
