"Take half your religion from this Humaira (Aisha)."— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Biography
Aisha bint Abi Bakr (رضي الله عنها) was the daughter of Abu Bakr as-Siddiq and became the wife of the Prophet ﷺ. She was known from childhood for her sharp intelligence and excellent memory.
Aisha is considered the greatest female scholar in Islamic history. She narrated 2,210 hadiths, making her one of the top seven narrators of hadith. Senior companions and scholars would come to her to verify hadiths and learn Islamic rulings. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Take half your religion from this Humaira (Aisha)."
Her home became a center of learning where the greatest scholars would gather. She was an expert in Quran interpretation, Islamic law, poetry, medicine, history, and genealogy. If the companions disagreed on any matter, they would consult her and she would often provide the correct answer.
The Prophet ﷺ loved her deeply, and many important hadiths describe their beautiful relationship. He passed away with his head in her lap, on a Monday. The last thing he did was use a siwak that she softened for him.
After the Prophet's ﷺ death, Aisha continued teaching Islam for nearly 50 years. She was known for her piety, her charity (she would give away everything she had), and her eloquence. She passed away in 678 CE during Ramadan and is buried in Jannatul Baqi in Madinah.
