The Prophet's Humility

تواضع النبي ﷺ

Despite being the Messenger of Allah, he mended his own clothes, milked his goat, helped with household chores, and served others.

Context

Throughout his life in both Makkah and Madinah

The Narrative
The Prophet ﷺ was the most humble of people despite being the final messenger of Allah. When asked by Aisha what the Prophet did at home, she replied: "He would be in the service of his family, mending his own sandals, sewing his own clothes, and milking his goat." In gatherings, the Prophet would sit wherever there was space, not in a special position. Anas ibn Malik reported: "When people came to meet the Prophet while he was sitting with his companions, they would have to ask, 'Which one of you is Muhammad?'" The Prophet would respond to any invitation, even from slaves or the poor. He said: "If I were invited to a meal of a sheep's foot, I would accept." He performed manual labor alongside companions. During the digging of the trench, the Prophet carried dirt and rocks like everyone else. The Prophet would never allow excessive praise. He said: "Do not exaggerate in praising me as the Christians exaggerated in praising the son of Mary. I am only a servant, so say: The servant of Allah and His messenger."
